“NearBi” is a free mobile application for iPhones allowing area residents and visitors of the New York Tri-City Area enhanced access to community and commercial resources. "NearBi" uses GPS and state-of-the-art iBeacon technology to deliver hyper-contextual content and location services to app users based on a micro-local scale.
The app encompasses three major features to help area residents: Jobs, Events and Issue/Incident Reporting. App users can search and apply for jobs, receive location based job notifications, event notifications, register for events, report issues and incidents to city authorities and track status of their requests in a user-friendly, location based map view. User can exactly know where/when jobs are posted and how to apply for jobs. The Events feature allows residents to access information about parks, community centers, golf courses, pools, sports facilities, schedules and regular updates on any other events at these community locations. Users can also reserve these resources and publish events for area residents to attend or participate. NearBi users can submit service requests for issues and incidents to appropriate city authorities and check on stature of their requests. NearBi users can subscribe to push notifications that are micro-local sensitive News and Alerts from city authorities and local businesses as well. As its first major initiative, “NearBi”, in association with the Tri-city mayors offices is providing easy, location based information on Police and community jobs.
With increased smartphone usage and deployment of Beacons in association with the Tri-city authorities in strategic locations, “NearBi" delivers enhanced public services , city-to-resident communication and personalised and relevant News and Alerts to residents and visitors.
